Microsoft had a lot to share this week at its big Windows 10 event, but one of the most interesting announcements might have been a massive 84-inch touchscreen called the Surface Hub. There’s still a lot we don’t know about this device, but a recent Microsoft patent may reveal a bit more about the latest Surface product.
Uncovered by Patently Mobile, Microsoft’s new patent for “Interactive Digital Displays” suggests the Surface Hub may offer some awesome, unexpected features. Beyond its big 4K display, the new device could use cameras, sensors, biometrics and integrated Kinect technology, opening the door for some futuristic capabilities
For example, the Surface Hub could recognize you immediately as you walk into a room, and prepare for commands. You may even be able to control the device with your Windows 10 smartphone. The patent also details some interesting gesture controls, including “bumping” two groups of data together to combine them on the spot.
Of course, this is just a patent, and there’s no guarantee any or all of this technology will make it into the Surface Hub. We’re also guessing the device will cost way too much for most people to buy. Still, we’re excited to see exactly what this massive touchscreen device will be capable of.
