Chrome for iOS Gets A Material Design Makeover and Handoff Support

Chrome for iOS looks a little different today. Call it a New Year’s makeover. On Tuesday Google detailed a fresh update to the app for iPhone and iPad, with Material Design, iOS 8 optimizations and Handoff support leading the charge.

The mention of Handoff is a bit of a surprise, with the update saying the feature will bring support from Chrome to your “default browser on OS X.” Since updating my Chrome app, Handoff seems to play pretty nice from mobile to desktop, with the little Chrome icon quickly pulling up on the left side of my OS X dock.

As per usual, there are the smattering of bug fixes and stability enhancements; the kind of improvements you expect apps to make. Beyond that, the presence of Material Design keeps the look in line with other Google apps, and the iOS 8 optimization just means Chrome will look more at home on bigger iPhones.

Google says the Chrome update will be rolling out over the next few hours, so look out for it in the iOS App Store.
