Atlus wants to make sure you have plenty of free time to play Etrian Mystery Dungeon with a release date that comes well after the growing spring rush. Mark your calendars for April 7t because that could be the day you start your new addiction in life.
Etrian Mystery Dungeon combines the character creation elements of Etrian Odyssey and the dungeon randomization and simple battle mechanics of the Mystery Dungeon games. Mixing the cores of these two franchises will lead to a rabbit hole of nearly infinite possibilities, one that will never cease to stump your progress or fail to find new ways to surprise you.
Chunsoft’s classic Mystery Dungeon series is an excellent way to see if your RPG series has “made it.” The company often collaborates with the most successful RPG franchises like Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, and even Pokemon, putting Etrian Odyssey in a pretty elite and exclusive crowd.
I’ve dabbled in the Mystery Dungeon games, but I wouldn’t really call myself a fan of them outside of the first Shiren the Wanderer. I do love me some Etrian Odyssey though, so maybe I’ll be checking this game out. The problem is that Atlus might have plans to release Etrian Odyssey II Untold before the end of the year, and I don’t want to burn myself out.
Two Etrian Odyssey games in one year? It happened in 2013.
Anyway, if you enjoy roguelikes or fun and fanciful RPGs with a brutal learning curve, you should check out Etrian Mystery Dungeon on your Nintendo 3DS on April 7.
