VLC is one of the best video player apps around, and now it’s expanding to yet another platform. The company announced a preview for Android TV, drastically expanding what you can watch using Google’s new smart TV operating system.

For now, VLC for Android TV only lets you watch local files, but that’s really what you’d want it for anyway. Just grab any media off your computer, phone or tablet and it should play on your TV without any issue thanks to VLC’s broad format support. It even works with Google’s voice search feature.

The new VLC app isn’t available from Google Play just yet, but you can grab the preview APK via the source link below to try it out for yourself. This version is really meant for developers though, and an official release probably isn’t too far away. In the meantime you can also watch a quick demo video from Gigaom right below.
