Google Maps for iOS Gets Restaurant Filters, Weather Information & More

Hot on the heels of its big Translate update, Google has rolled out some nice improvements to its Maps app for iOS. The latest release adds restaurant filters that’ll help you find the perfect place to eat in a snap, as well as weather information for cities around the world, and more.

Fancy Chinese food tonight? Or how about steak? No matter what you’re in the mood for, Google Maps can help you find it. When you search for a restaurant, you can now filter the results by cuisine type to show only those that cater to your taste, so all those McDonald’s locations in your area won’t be displayed when you’re looking for Thai food.

What’s more, the latest Maps app also displays weather information for different cities. Simply find the city on the map, then tap the information card to see current weather conditions. Another handy addition is the option to add transit directions to your calendar, so if you have a meeting in an unfamiliar location, you can ensure you won’t get lost on the way.

Other improvements in this release include the ability to drop a pin for both your starting and destination points in directions and navigation, and those always-welcome bug fixes. Google Maps for iOS is available to download now from the App Store, and as always, it’s completely free.
