Skype on Wednesday released Skype 5.9 for iPhone, which includes several enhancements, and also announced a new pre-release program that will allow interested parties to test new Skype features before they’re rolled out to the public. It’s basically a beta program.

Skype said that today’s update should make it much easier for folks to quickly launch the application, into a chat conversation and then execute a Skype call using its updated “chat picker” feature. The dial-pad was updated with a contact suggestion feature, too, so it will pull up the appropriate contact as you type out the number.

Finally, Skype explained its new pre-release program, which allows customers to apply for access to early versions of Skype. The firm said there are a limited number of spaces available and that applicants must be over 18 to apply. You can read more about that program and the update in the source below.
