Normally, I always recommend going with first-party equipment, especially if it is made by Nintendo. However, seeing as though the Big N has made it nearly impossible to snag its GameCube Controller adapter for the Wii U, I have no problem recommending a third-party alternative with this product.
Play Asia has listed a $19.99 GameCube controller adapter from Mayflash. It is expected to be in stock on Jan. 14, but there is no telling how long the product will last.
With this adapter, you aren’t required to buy it bundled with the game, nor will you have to spend over $100. Not only is it more readily available than the first-party product, it is also superior by being able to connect to both the Wii U and the PC with Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8 and OS X support. More specifically, it can be used with the incredible Dolphin GameCube emulator if you want to play your GameCube games in gorgeous HD.
If you are dying to use the GameCube controller to play Super Smash Bros. and are tired of waiting for a restock from Nintendo, this seems like more than a viable alternative. If you manage to snag one, let us know what you think in the comment section below.
