In November, back when Spotify was dealing with bad press related to Taylor Swift’s decision to pull her work from the streaming music service, the firm announced that it had hit a new milestone and was serving 12.5 million subscribers. Today, it proved once again that it doesn’t need Taylor Swift’s sweet vocals to find success.
The firm said that it now serves 15 million subscribers, a milestone it hit before the New Year, which means it added 2.5 million customers in fewer than two months and 8 million customers since May.
Spotify also noted that it now serves more than 60 million active users, which includes folks who use the service but don’t pay for its premium monthly unlimited music option. “We owe it all to you, the music fans who listen, discover, share and celebrate music and artists with us every day of the year,” the Spotify team said in a blog post. “We want to send a giant thank you to all of you.” The firm released a new playlist to celebrate its milestone.
Spotify continues to find success, even in the face of stiff competition from Google, YouTube, Rdio and other streaming music services, and despite artists such as Taylor Swift giving it the cold shoulder.
