Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse for the Nintendo 3DS on Sale

Shantae and the Pirate's Curse

I’m a big fan of the Shantae games, but I still haven’t gotten around to the most recent entry in the series, Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse. Fans have nothing but praise for it so far, but it regretfully got lost somewhere in between my holiday review crunch and reignited love affairs with both Persona and Suikoden last year.

If you’re at all interested in checking out this game then by all means, now is the best time to do so. The Nintendo 3DS version has been hit with a 25 percent discount until Jan. 22, and the $15 you’ll be paying is a generous price tag considering the hours of quality gameplay, great humor, and gorgeously fluid graphics you’ll be getting.

Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse is the third entry in WayForward’s original IP, and it is by far the most ambitious. Our sassy hero has been stripped of her genie powers since the ending of the second game, and she must turn to the equipment and techniques of her pirate rivals in an effort to regain them. Along the the way, she has dealings with some questionably loyal zombie siblings and other colorful characters.

Like I said, I haven’t played it, but the atmosphere seems to suggest that this is the game that WayForward has always been trying to make. I have it downloading now, so I’ll have to beat it before the next entry, Shantae Half-Genie Hero, brings the series into HD for the first time.

Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse can also be snagged up for the Wii U, but I’ve always preferred to play this series portably. This version is not on sale, but don’t let that stop you from picking it up either.
