Azure Striker Gunvolt

Inti Creates’ excellent run-and-gun action game Azure Striker Gunvolt has done pretty well for itself as a download-only Nintendo 3DS game, but it should be doing a lot better. The company reports on Twitter that the game has hit the 90,000 unit marker after being available for five months.

For those who haven’t bought it, Azure Striker Gunvolt is Inti Create’s spiritual-successor to the Mega Man Zero games it made back on the Game Boy Advance. It’s a gorgeously animated romp through the past with a very smart shooting mechanic. For as wildly entertaining as the fighting is, though, the platforming isn’t really up to snuff wen comparing it to Mega Man Zero, feeling a little basic in that area.

You can check out my full thoughts in my review. I am a fan, and I fully recommend you check it out! In fact, Inti Creates is also working on the much more high-profile “classic Mega Man” spiritual successor Mighty No. 9 with co-creator Keiji Inafune, and from everything I’ve seen and played, Gunvolt is a more fun game.

Congratulations to Inti Creates on the success of your game. I only hope it continues to do better and inspires you to make more.
