Sony Xperia T3 owners are waking up to a big software update this morning, but it isn’t the hotly-anticipated Lollipop upgrade they may be hoping for. Instead, they are finally receiving Google’s final Android 4.4.4 KitKat update, which includes important security patches.
Sony has confirmed that its entire Xperia Z series will get a Lollipop update in due course, but the company has been quiet about its plans for other product families. For now, then, Xperia T3 owners must make do with the latest KitKat release, which is rolling out now over-the-air.
There are several different versions of this particular release — built for different Xperia T3 variants. “Build number 18.1.A.2.25 has been released in select regions for the LTE models (D5103, D5106), whilst the HSPA+ model (D5102) has seen build number 18.1.A.2.32,” explains Xperia Blog.
If you haven’t already received an update notification on your Xperia T3, you can search for the software manually from within the “Software Update” section inside the Settings app.
There’s no good reason why the Xperia T3 won’t get Lollipop eventually; it is only seven months old, after all, and it has specifications that are more than good enough. It’s equipped with a 5.3-inch 720p display, a 1.4GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor, 1GB of RAM, and 8GB of storage. All of that is packed into an attractive design that measures just 7mm thick.
