The Assassin’s Creed film, starring Michael Fassbender (Prometheus, X-Men First Class), has been pushed back once again and will now hit theaters on December 21, 2016.
As Polygon notes, the film has been pushed back a number of times, first set to arrive early 2015, delayed until late 2015, and now pushed back a full year out. The movie is being directed by Justin Kurzel, an Australian indie film director.
Very little is known about the movie beyond the star, director, and base property. Fassbender has been consistently attached to the movie from its early planning stages, suggesting he’s at least interested in the concept. Video game movies often end up in development hell until the people involved lose interest and stop paying attention to the property. While that may be what happens with Assassin’s Creed, at least it appears to still be getting attention from the people making it.
