Naughty Dog is hard at work on Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and ready to share some details. In the just-unveiled issue of GameInformer, the PlayStation-focused developer talks about the story, characters, and some of the gameplay elements we can look forward to. A small team has been working on the game since the end of Uncharted 3, growing as the development of The Last of Us wound down.
The game will focus on Nathan’s relationship with his brother, Sam, with whom Nathan has a long-standing rivalry (though he’d previously thought his brother dead). Sam comes to Drake for help, uprooting him from his more relaxed existence with Elena.
The few details we have now address a lot of Uncharted 3‘s issues. While the story and overall game are linear, you won’t be constrained to one “golden” path, and situations will allow for a variety of approaches, often including circumventing combat completely, leading you to different areas of the map and even different side stories. Set pieces are handled from an emotional story impact, where Uncharted 3 was more about fitting their ideas for set pieces into the existing story. Artifacts are back for us to find, but they’ll often require following notes.
Game Informer’s digital issue is already out, and the physical copies should follow shortly with even more detail.
