Skateboarding legend Tony Hawk and Activision are finally teaming up together again for a mainline Tony Hawk game seven years after the last release. We’ve heard teases about its existence for quite some time, but Sony officially confirmed during its CES presentation that the game will get a PlayStation 4 release in 2015.

Very little information beyond the release window was given. No word of peripherals or pricing plans just yet, just a 2015 PlayStation 4 release.

Seeing as though Tony Hawk is working with Activision on this product, we can safely assume that the game will be making its way to the Xbox One and PC, possibly even the Wii U. No official word from Nintendo or Microsoft has been made yet.

Now that we know for sure the game is coming to next-gen consoles, what should we look forward to? How do you make a Tony Hawk game work in the modern age? Free-to-play or premium pricing? Do you go with the arcade style of the original games or a more realistic, simulator style?

Obviously, if you are my age, and you pick up a game that says “Tony Hawk” on the box, you want ridiculous stunts available with just a mere button press or two. At the same time, you can’t simply put HD graphics behind the old mechanics. Activision already tried that with the HD remake of the original, and everyone hated it.  Still, can you imagine that original game running in something like Frostbite 3 or the CryEngine 3 though? That would be ridiculous!

Regardless of the direction the game takes, I’m pretty sure we all can guess that there will be no required skateboard peripheral, that’s for sure. We’ve left those dark days behind us.

Expect more from Activision on this game in the coming week.
