I have been having fun watching all of the classic Killer Instinct characters slowly leak out with a new modernized look, but every once in a while, developer Iron Galaxy cranks out an original one that is worth checking out. The latest is a tease of a character named Omen, a bonus character in the fighting game’s second season of fighters.
Iron Galaxy has made it clear that this is not one of the eight characters planned for the second season, but rather he is just a small present to fans. The only way to pick up Omen is to buy the Combo Breaker Pack or the Ultra Edition, and he will not be sold separately. Essentially, you have to own every character to play as him.
Why is he free? Well, most likely because he is not an entirely original character. Omen is based on both Jago and Shadow Jago, combining Killer Instinct’s “Ryu character” with a whole new devilish look. So far, all we have are his hands, wings, a moveset, and a promise that he is one of the best zoning characters in the game.
- Three shadow stocks
- Shadow-powered ability to cancel any action, turn into shadow, and move a short distance in any direction
- Multi-hitting close-range kick special
- Powerful projectile zoning with some radical projectile options
- A special move that burns all three stocks
- Aerial movement options
It’s a nice gesture and a solid reason to pick up all the characters for Killer Instinct. Reception of the fighting game has been a lot stronger than I predicted as of late, and the second season still has four more characters to go.
Come on Iron Galaxy. How long are you going to make me wait for Cinder?!
