Nest Now Plays Nicely With Select Appliances and Smart Bulbs

Your Nest devices are now even smarter thanks to new partnerships with a whole bunch of big companies, including Philips, LG, and Whirlpool. Nest thermostats and smoke detectors now play nicely with select home appliances, smart bulbs, and even connected locks.

Nest has added 15 new partners to its newly-launched “Works with Nest” program, according to VentureBeat, which allow the original Nest thermostat and Protect smoke and carbon monoxide detector to do more than ever before.

By working with appliance manufacturers like LG, Nest devices can alert you to things like when you’ve “accidentally left the oven on,” Nest said in its announcement. You can also connect your Nest to the popular Hue lightbulbs from Philips and have them turn on or flash automatically when smoke is detected.

Starting today, Nest works with the August Smart Lock, Automatic car adapters, Insteon, the Ooma Telo, Philips Hue lights, the Kevo Smart Lock, the Withings Aura Sleep System, and compatible appliances from LG. Coming soon is support for Big Ass Fans, the Beep Dial, ChargePoint Home EV, Lightify lights, Stack bulbs, Whirlpool washers and dryers, and Zuli Smartplugs.

Nest has long been working to make our lives easier, and with the “Works with Nest” program continuing to expand, its devices are only going to get better at doing that. What was once just a smart thermostat capable of turning the heating on before you get home can now play an even bigger part in your smart home setup.
