“You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain.” Words the AAA video game industry could learn a few things from, but at least a few studios and franchises out there have some “hero” still left in them. Rocksteady and Batman: Arkham are definitely among them.
One glance at my most anticipated games list of 2015 list spells out a very Japan and indie focused year for me. Not to say that I am totally devoid of monstrous budget titles, but far and away the biggest of the bunch is the return of Rocksteady to the Batman: Arkham series. A few new screenshots leaked over the weekend are a pretty good indication as to why.
Seriously, is there any game out there that has better graphics than this? We hear all about how the uncanny valley is going to be obliterated in this console generation, but I have yet to see anybody come closer than Rocksteady has. The Batman and the batmobile shots especially could be almost mistaken for grainy photos. Once the rain settles in and the robotic Arkham Knight himself turns up, a little bit of that realism is lost, but the visual quality is still out of this world.
Now, I’m not one to judge a game on its graphics alone, but with Rocksteady, we have a history of incredible Batman games that has never faltered once under the studio’s guidance. Everything we’ve seen so far points to this as being the best the series has to offer, and I can’t wait to see if it lives up to expectations.
Batman: Arkham Knight will be released on Jun. 2nd for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
