While Android and iOS users have been enjoying Office on their smartphones for some months, Microsoft’s own Windows Phone platform has been left out in the cold. But according to one company executive, Microsoft will be making an Office for Windows Phone announcement before February 19.

Joe Belfiore, Corporate Vice President of Microsoft’s Operating Systems Group, has taken to Chinese social networking platform Weibo to reassure Windows Phone users that their Office demands are not being ignored.

“I want to assure you that our Office team has not forgotten Windows Phone,” he said, while acknowledging the frustration felt by Microsoft’s own users who watched Office launch on Android and iOS “without accompanying news around what will happen on Windows Phone.”

“We’re just aligning all of our news and announcements to a single event,”¬†Belfiore added, before promising that we’ll hear “much more about what we have planned before Chinese New Year,” which takes place on February 19.

Belfiore could be hinting at an announcement during Microsoft’s upcoming Windows 10 press event, which is to take place in Redmond, Washington — the home of Microsoft’s headquarters — on Wednesday, January 21. The event is likely to bring the release of the first Windows 10 consumer preview.

Belfiore’s post also confirms that Microsoft’s team in China has been writing new features specifically for the Chinese market, which is why the company made this announcement on Weibo, rather than local social media platforms. However, we’re hoping that Western markets will see Office on Windows Phone at the same time — if not before.
