Samsung hasn’t been as fast as some companies in upgrading its top smartphones to the latest version of Android, but a newly leaked document suggests your Galaxy handset could make the jump to Lollipop as soon as next month. The news comes from one anonymous Samsung employee, who leaked an internal email on Reddit before confirming his identity to the site’s moderators.
The first updates should start next month, the leaker said, noting that the Galaxy S5 is “getting the most attention” and will likely be the first phone to get Android 5.0 Lollipop, followed by the Galaxy Note 4 and Note Edge. After that, the Note 3 and S4 are next in line. Finally, after it updates its phones, Samsung will start focusing on updating its current tablet lineup.
The leaked email also discusses “SES devices,” likely a reference to phones and tablets on display at Samsung Experience Shops set up inside some Best Buy locations, but it’s unclear what sort of update is being applied at this time.
It’s worth noting that this leaked email doesn’t guarantee an update is coming next month. If anything, the email seems more like a general outline of Samsung’s plans. Delays are certainly a possibility, and of course each wireless carrier will also have to test the new software before pushing it to consumers.
