Rumor has it Xiaomi may head to CES next month to unveil its rumored flagship Mi5, and a new report suggests this could be the Chinese company’s best smartphone yet by a huge margin. Citing the usual supply chain sources, DigiTimes claims the upcoming device will sport a 5.7-inch display with a protective sapphire glass cover.
It’s worth noting that DigiTimes doesn’t have the best track record with this kind of thing, so you shouldn’t get your hopes up just yet. Still, if Xiaomi can pull off a 5.7-inch sapphire display it could give the device a huge advantage over the competition. Hopefully we won’t have to wait too much longer to find out.
Meanwhile, a new photo of what appears to be the Mi5 was spotted on Chinese social network Weibo earlier today by GizChina. The tech blog also offers up a few possible specs for the device, including a 2K display, Snapdragon 810 processor and 3GB of RAM, citing anonymous inside sources.
Even if the Mi5 does make its debut at CES 2015 in Las Vegas, we don’t expect the device to be available to U.S. customers. Xiaomi is still mostly focused on China and a handful of nearby markets, and it could be a while before its products hit American stores.
