Over the last few weeks or so, we’ve been reading and seeing a lot regarding the use of amiibo in third party efforts. One game in particular from Bandai Namco has shown up a lot. That title is the upcoming One Piece: Super Grand Battle! X for the Nintendo 3DS.
Today we have a trailer that actually features the use of Nintendo’s amiibo in this crazy looking game. The amiibo themselves actually show up at the five minute mark. It’s incredibly brief, but those moments coupled with the previous bits of the trailer should be a great representation of what this game should offer.
This looks like a strong 2D brawler in the One Piece universe, yes, but the amiibo support sort of takes that nerd factor and drives it up enough to make me want to actually import this thing in order to give it a shot.
The things standing in my way? First of all, this is currently only a Japanese game. Second, the only 3DS that reads NFC stuff is the New Nintendo 3DS which is not available in the west. There is an adapter coming for the device, but we don’t have a release date on that yet.
So, I’ll just sit here and drool over seeing Franky as Donkey Kong until something gives and we get this thing in the states. Anyone else waiting with me?
