Apple went big this year with the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 and 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus, but the company may return to a smaller form factor in 2015 according to one industry analyst. An investor note written by Cowen and Co.’s Timothy Arcuri, and obtained by AppleInsider, suggests Cupertino could introduce a 4-inch iPhone 6s mini next year.
The smaller Apple smartphone would apparently be just one of three new devices, alongside an upgraded iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. It’s not a bad idea, and the company may want to offer an improved version of iPhone 5s and 5c by fall 2015 for shoppers with smaller hands. Then again, Apple has been pushing its larger-screen message for a while now, so why backtrack on that?
Arcuri has a pretty mixed track record when it comes to predicting Apple news, so for now we’ll be taking his latest claim with a grain of salt. Still, if Cupertino is planning to release a new 4-inch smartphone it shouldn’t be too long before the first components start to leak out. Hopefully we’ll have a better sense of the company’s plans soon.
