Steins;Gate Confirmed for an English Release on the PS3 and PS Vita

I don’t know too much about Steins;Gate, but I do know that it has done very well for itself in Japan over the last five years. The visual novel genre doesn’t have the same level of presence throughout the rest of the world, but publisher PQUBE is taking a chance on it with an English localization on the PlayStation 3 and PS Vita.

The story takes place in Tokyo electronics district Akihabara. A group of fist year college students learn how to travel into the past and create multiple realms of existence using a “phone trigger” system with their cellphones. From there, they must play them off one another and uncover a conspiracy revolving around the Large Hadron Collider.

Do they ever travel to Hill Valley?

In Japan, it was originally released on the Xbox 360 of all consoles, but it was popular enough to branch out into the PlayStation 3, PSP, PS Vita, and PC. Famitsu granted it its annual Game of Excellence award, and many in Japan consider it to be “the finest Visual Novel ever made” according to the presser. To date, this game has been released for the PC in English, so this new PlayStation 3 and PS Vita version will be a debut for the traditional console and handheld market.

Sounds interesting. Maybe I’d like to check it out. I still have Zero Escape: Virtue’s Last Reward waiting in my backlog, though. Need to play through that before picking up anymore visual novels.
