NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet owners already have access to some of Valve’s most popular shooters, including Half-Life 2 and Portal, and a new entry is being added starting today. The company on Monday announced the arrival of Half-Life 2:Episode One on Google Play, which picks up immediately after the events of Half-Life 2 around war-torn City 17; the game originally came out all the way back in 2006.
Last month, NVIDIA gave out a “Green Box” bundle to anyone who purchased a 32GB/LTE SHIELD Tablet, which came with the games mentioned above. But for the remaining SHIELD Tablet owners, now’s your chance to pick the game up, which retails for just $7.99. Not bad for such a terrific game. NVIDIA’s excellent tab has already been updated to Lollipop, making it one of the best Android slates money can buy—even better than Google’s own Nexus 9.
The SHIELD Tablet is a great tool for gamers, and offers a cool GRID service in addition to access to some of Valve’s best titles. With the SHIELD wireless controller (required for Episode One), you really can’t beat the mobile gaming experience, especially for the $299 price. Valve’s games play well on the SHIELD Tablet, and I have no reason to believe Episode One will be any different; I imagine (and hope) Episode Two is just around the corner. For now, SHIELD Tablet owners can download Episode One for $7.99.
