amiibo Unlock Planes in Ace Combat for 3DS in Japan

Yet another third party use for the amiibo in Japan has been revealed by Bandai Namco. Last week, we saw Nintendo crossing over into the world of One Piece on the Nintendo 3DS thanks to their figurines, today we have Nintendo themed planes in Ace Combat.

Specifically, Japanese gamers with the New Nintendo 3DS will be able to unlock planes featuring the likes of Princess Peach, Link, Samus, Luigi and more in Ace Combat 3D: Cross Rumble+.

You can see all the planes that we have shots of in the gallery at the head of this post.

As we mentioned before, this is the second third party use of the amiibo so far, though that’s only happened in Japan and only with Bandai Namco. Hopefully, we’ll see third party amiibo use spread to the Wii U and 3DS in the western world as well. Of course, we’d need a 3DS with an NFC reader or an adapter to make the latter part of that hope possible.

We’ll have more on the amiibo and what Nintendo has in store for them as it comes.
