It’s been less than a month since Cyanogen confirmed plans to partner with Indian-phone maker Micromax on a new line of handsets. Now, it looks like we’re just a week from an official announcement as the first invitations for a Dec. 18 event are released.
The invitation doesn’t offer any new details on the upcoming smartphone, but the hashtag #YULaunch confirms that the Cyanogen-powered device is on the way. Micromax also teases the device with the words “Play God,” which could be a reference to Cyanogen’s many customization options. The company recently unveiled a new Themes app that makes it easy to tweak the way its software looks.
We’re still pretty much in the dark on the hardware side of things. However, recent quotes from Micromax co-founder Rahul Sharma suggest it will be a high-end device. “The phone is going to be a monster,” he told 91mobiles, adding that it’s going to offer “really cool specs.”
We can’t wait to see what Micromax and Cyanogen have planned, though it still seems unlikely the YU will launch outside of India.
