Apple Watch Production May Be Back on Schedule

Apple Watch mass production could kick off in January, according to The United Daily News in Taiwan. Previous reports suggested the device might not launch until the spring, but it looks like Apple is finally back on schedule.

You can thank Quanta Computer, which Apple tapped to manufacture the upcoming smartwatch, for the good news. The Taiwan-based company has apparently already expanded its staff working on the Apple Watch from 3,000 to 10,000 people, and plans to boost that number to at least 30,000 next year. Quanta also reportedly managed to solve production issues for several smaller components used in the device.

With Apple’s smartwatch hardware ready to go, the real question is whether the company can perfect its software in time. The Apple Watch runs on a new iOS-based operating system, and the version we saw on display back in September was just a demo of the real thing. Hopefully, Cupertino can sort out any remaining software issues in time now that production is almost set to kick off.
