Shovel Knight Will Hit the PS4, PS3 and PS Vita

Shovel Knight, a terrific throwback platformer that looks like it was meant for the SNES, is coming to PS4, PS3 and Vita. Take my money now!

The retro-style action game takes a lot of inspiration from the likes of Mega Man, Castlevania, and everything in between. Not that we’re complaining. The trend of old school/new school introduces audiences to a bygone era of gaming, while giving old timers like me a jolt of needed nostalgia. We loved Shovel Knight when we reviewed it earlier this year, and it’s great that it’ll be available to a wider audience.

To sweeten the deal, it appears a certain character from God of War is appearing as a boss. I’ll let you check out the video to see exactly who it is. Unfortunately, no release date was shared, so we’ll be on the lookout for more information in the coming weeks (hopefully not much longer than that).

Check out the trailer above to see what makes Shovel Knight such a gem.

Homages to retro games are nothing new. More than half of the indie developers out there have dedicated their careers to recreating the spirit of games they used to play as kids. Whether they grew up during the NES days or as recently as the N64, there is no shortage of throwbacks to the days of old.
