Facebook-owned Oculus worked closely with Samsung to create the Samsung Gear VR, a virtual reality headset for the Galaxy Note 4 that will launch soon for consumers, but that’s not the only product the two companies are teaming up together to develop. Speaking during the Startup Nations Summit in Seoul, Oculus CEO Brendan Iribe said we can expect the duo to bear new fruit in the future.
“We’ll work closely with Samsung to develop more products,” Iribe explained, according to a report from CNET. “We successfully launched the Gear VR with Samsung this year and I’m sure we will continue close relation with Samsung, as always,” Iribe didn’t discuss what kind of projects the two companies might work on next.
It seems plausible that it could be something as simple as Gear VR units for different phone models, or possibly a universal model that works with all of Samsung’s phones – at least those with processors that are powerful enough to handle the advanced technology required for virtual reality.
Perhaps there’s something brand new entirely. Oculus surprised us out of the gate with a virtual reality device that actually works, and one that continues to blow our minds. Can it do that again?
