Get ready for another “definitive remaster” for your PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. Bandai Namco and From Software are preparing a brand new release of Dark Souls II with the brand new subtitle of Scholar of the First Sin.
This re-release, which is also coming to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, will come packed with “an expanded story featuring additional in-game events and non-player characters along with new, deadlier enemies and gameplay improvements.”
The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions will also take full advantage of the next-gen consoles’ hardware, so it will more closely resemble the PC version of the game. The question remains at large as to whether or not it resembles the misleading TGS demo or reveal trailer though. My guess is that it won’t, and I’m not sure how much I trust these new screenshots or this trailer.
Owners of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 will get all of the re-balancing and matchmaking upgrades for free, but all of the additional story elements will have to be purchased separately. This expansion will include all the original trio of DLC content, so that won’t have to be purchased again.
It’s hard to believe that Dark Souls II was released within the year. We’ve gone through so many titles since then that I could have sworn it was a 2013 release. Where does the time go? Bandai Namco set a release date for Apr. 7th, and has confirmed the PlayStation 3 version will be at PlayStation Experience on Dec. 6th.
