Pebble Gets Mobile Payments with an Official PayPal App

Rumor has it PayPal blew its chance to work on Apple Pay when it partnered with Samsung for mobile payments on the Galaxy S5 in an effort to beat Apple to the market. That strategy didn’t exactly work out, but today the company is giving it another shot with a Pebble app that brings payments to your wrist months ahead of the Apple Watch launch.

Be warned, PayPal’s solution isn’t quite as slick as Apple’s. Instead of simply holding your wrist up to an NFC terminal, as will be the case with the Apple Watch, the Pebble app will generate a QR code that needs to be scanned.

The new app can even help you find stores that support PayPal, a feature that’s still missing from Apple Pay. You can also use it to pay ahead of time on the way to a restaurant or store so that your order is ready and waiting for you when you arrive.

If you already own a Pebble smartwatch it’s definitely worth checking out the new app for yourself. You can download it for free via the appstore link below.
