Warning: This video contains spoilers. It spoils an easter egg, and it’s possible that it spoils a major late-game plot point. Yes, it happens at the beginning of the game, but those sensitive to plot-based spoilers might want to stay away. You’ve been warned, fellow gaming nerds!
The beginning of Far Cry 4 presents players with a choice. After being forced into joining the dictator of Kyrat for a meal, players are given the opportunity to stay at the table or explore the building. Exploring the building is what you’re meant to do. The screams of a citizen beckon you beyond the meal, in spite of the direction from Pagan Min.
What if you don’t explore? What if you employ the choice to stay? That’s how you get to the alternate ending. And, as seen in the time-lapsed video above, the alternate ending is pretty darn cool. It also pokes fun at you for being peaceful instead of playing with guns as the Clash’s “Should I Stay or Should I Go” kicks in. No, the irony of the song choice for this moment of decision is not lost on me.
Just like Vaas before him, Pagan Min is the type of crazy villain I want in games. The Hannibal Lecter type, you know? They’re clearly vicious, terrible, insane people, but you want to see more of them. Hearing from them and watching them as they exact evil is a treat. It’s crazy, but it works.
Far Cry 4 is out today for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC platforms. Are you grabbing the game?
