LG has confirmed that its flagship G3 will be getting an Android 5.0 Lollipop upgrade this week. All of the Lollipop features you’ve been looking forward to will be baked into the release, including improved notifications, visual enhancements, and the ability to unlock your device with a connected Android Wear watch.

LG boasts that it is the “first global smartphone manufacturer to offer the Lollipop upgrade in 2014,” and technically, that’s true. Motorola would claim it was first after it started rolling out Android 5.0 to the new Moto X last week, however, it’s just a soak test for now, so only a handful of users will be getting it.

LG, on the other hand, is bringing Lollipop to everyone with a G3, starting with users in Poland initially, and then “other key markets in the near future.” The South Korean company also promises an upgrade schedule for other LG devices soon.

“LG is absolutely committed to giving our customers the best mobile experiences available and bringing Android Lollipop to G3 owners as soon as possible is a top priority,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, President and CEO of LG. “The new features and improvements in Android 5.0 will bring a whole new user experience to the G3 and make it even better than it already is.”

LG had promised that it would deliver a Lollipop upgrade to the G3 before the end of the year, but rolling it out less than two weeks after the software made its consumer debut on the Nexus 9 is pretty darn impressive. G3 owners must be feeling pretty lucky right now.
