Kickstart This Robot Mouse Toy for Your Cat

Most weeks we like to highlight a new Kickstarter product that we’d like to buy for ourselves, but today we’re trying something a little different. Mousr claims to be the most advanced robotic mouse on the market, a high-tech chase toy for your cat.

On the surface Mousr looks like a pretty typical cat toy: A small piece of white plastic on wheels with a long tail to chase. But looks can be deceiving, and under the hood this robot packs some pretty impressive technology. It sports a 360 degree camera, which combined with motion sensors let Mousr react to your cat like a real mouse might. It knows when it’s under attack and when it’s been captured as well.

There’s also a built-in speaker for getting the cat’s attention, and LED eyes that change color to let you know when it needs to be recharged. You can even switch out the tail with different designs to keep things interesting.

Mousr will work on its own to keep your cat entertained, but the company is also developing a smartphone app for Android and iOS that will put you in control. That’s one space where the project still has a lot of work to do, though you don’t actually need the app to use Mousr.

You can pre-order Mousr on Kickstarter for as little as $120, though it won’t actually ship until October 2015. There’s also an option to buy two for $260 or 10 for $1000.

There’s still a lot of work to be done before Mousr is ready to launch, and the crowd-funding this project receives will help pay to develop the artificial intelligence and robotics needed to make this idea a reality. At worst the company could under-deliver on its promise of the perfect cat toy, though delays are also a possibility.

If you need a new cat toy today you’re better off trying Amazon or your local pet store, but if you’re willing to hold out for the cat toy of the future here’s your chance to make it a reality.
