November’s helping of free games through the Instant Game Collection is wisely low key. All of the titles are small, “pick up and play” indie offerings that aren’t going to provide a huge distraction to the big budget hits of the holiday season.
That being said, Sony is prepared to ship a lot of consoles this Christmas, and it needs to tempt the unconverted into ponying up for a PlayStation Plus subscription. With that, December and January are stacked with at least two big titles. It has provided a sneak peak at the offerings, and December’s will be the D.C. Comics fighter Injustice: Gods Among Us Ultimate Edition and the cowboy themed shooter Secret Ponchos.
The two provide a decent enough selection to get a few people to join, but the big fish comes in January when inFamous: Second Son, one of the PlayStation 4’s key exclusives, also becomes free through the program. It even has the universally beloved indie puzzle game The Swapper joining alongside it.
In other words, if you want free games from the Instant Game Collection, January is your target month to jump aboard.
