For the record, yes, this is still spoiler territory. Nintendo says so, and so do we.
The final two secret characters have been revealed for Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U and 3DS, and they are both plum adorable. The classic Pokemon Jigglypuff makes its return to the series for a fourth time while the Duck Hunt duo make the roster for a first.
Jigglypuff is well known for its ability to put foes to sleep, and that hasn’t changed in this game. Once that happens, its ridiculously strong attacks can wreak all kinds of havoc on its opponents, and if that doesn’t work, well, it can always “cute” them to death.
As for the Duck Hunt duo, they have been a little controversial so far. Some point to this team as evidence that Nintendo isn’t being honest about the reasoning behind the Ice Climbers being cut. Controlling two characters at once on the Nintendo 3DS proved more difficult than Nintendo had imagined, and yet, here are two characters. Am I right? Well, no… despite having two distinct personalities, the Dog and Duck both act as a single entity in battle. The Ice Climbers were genuinely two separate entities.
Regardless, they made the roster, and not only do they get new screenshots, but they get a great video that throws back to the original Duck Hunt NES game.
And with that, Nintendo has revealed all of the characters that made it into at least the Nintendo 3DS version of the game. Does the Wii U have a surprise or two? Who knows? Mewtwo is still scheduled for release as a special DLC for fans who buy both copies, but if you’re favorite didn’t make the cut, then there isn’t much else to do besides hope Nintendo gets around to delivering them later.
The Wii U version of Super Smash Bros. will be released on Nov. 21.
