NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet Android 5.0 Lollipop Update Landing This Month

by Brandon Russell | November 4, 2014November 4, 2014 9:30 pm PDT

One of the best tablets of the year, NVIDIA’s SHIELD Tablet, is going to get even better before the year is up. NVIDIA posted a short teaser on its YouTube channel showing of Android 5.0 running on the company’s tablet. And the best part? The update should be pushed out to SHIELD Tablet users before the end of the month, making it one of the first third-party devices to receive Google’s awesome new mobile software.

Even though NVIDIA’s update isn’t quite ready for primetime, things are looking smooth and fluid, and since NVIDIA doesn’t put any skin atop Android, Material Design is able to shine through. It essentially looks like the exact same experience you’d get on the Nexus 9, though you do get NVIDIA’s awesome gaming apps and features. In addition, NVIDIA is updating its Dabbler app in its newest update, which will introduce a new UI and features.

NVIDIA doesn’t share a precise date for when we can expect Android 5.0 Lollipop to be pushed out, but seeing as we’re already into the month of November, it’s only a matter of days now. There’s a lot to like about Google’s big Lollipop update, particularly Material Design, and it’ll no doubt fit right at home on NVIDIA’s awesome slate.
