HTC introduced the HTC Desire Eye and the HTC RE Camera earlier this month, the latter of which is a new portable handheld camera that’s capable of snapping videos, wide-angle shots and more. HTC didn’t provide a specific launch date for the RE when it was unveiled, and instead only promised that it would be in the hands of consumers in time for the holidays this year. The company did open up pre-orders, however, and an e-mail sent to those folks suggests that the HTC RE Camera will begin shipping in mid-November.
In an e-mail to customers who pre-ordered the orange color of the RE Camera, HTC explained that it saw unforeseen demand for that color option and that, as such, the orange model may be delayed for shipment. In the e-mail, HTC suggests that users consider switch to the white RE Camera, which customers should “receive around November 15.” That suggests that the launch is scheduled for mid-November, at least for customers who opted to pre-order the camera early. It’a also scheduled to hit retail outlets like Best Buy and carrier stores, though we don’t know if in-store availability will fall at the same time.
HTC’s e-mail also offers a 10 percent discount to folks who ordered the orange camera in exchange for their patience. If the customer opts to switch to the white camera, he or she will receive it likely before the orange model ships and will be treated to the 10 percent discount. If the customer opts to stick with orange, the discount still applies. Or, customers can opt to buy both the white and the orange cameras with a 10 percent discount applied to both.
We really enjoyed the RE Camera during our hands-on period with it earlier this month and we’re excited to play with it even more when it finally launches, and it sounds that like will happen about two weeks from now. TechnoBuffalo reached out to HTC for clarification on a specific launch date but a spokesperson was not immediately available for comment.
