Like Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag before it, Assassin’s Creed Unity for PC is optimized for NVIDIA cards. In this demo, we get a look at some of the features NVIDIA users will see that those with AMD cards and consoles won’t have access to.
With NVIDIA’s Horizon Bases Ambient Occlusion technology, players will see deeper shadows. Temporal Anti-Aliasing promises smoother images and less flickering. Percentage-Closer Soft Shadows are meant to create interactive, real-time shadows that are softer and more natural. The game also will feature Direct X Tessellation and will be compatible with NVIDIA’s GeForce Experience software and streaming to its Shield handheld device.
Of course, not every PC is going to run the game at full settings, and the specs for the game suggest that if you want to play Assassin’s Creed Unity on PC, you’ll need a pretty modern computer:

- Intel Core i5-2500K @ 3.3 GHz or AMD FX-8350 @ 4.0 GHz or AMD Phenom II x4 940 @ 3.0 GHz processor
- 6 GB RAM
- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 or AMD Radeon HD 7970 (2 GB VRAM) video card
Recommended PC specs:
- Intel Core i7-3770 @ 3.4 GHz or AMD FX-8350 @ 4.0 GHz or better processor
- 8 GB RAM
- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 or AMD Radeon R9 290X (3 GB VRAM) video card
As The Verge notes, the game requires, at minimum, a card that was top of the line just two years ago to run it and last year’s flagship cards to for recommended settings.
It’s hard to tell from this demo how big of a difference these advertised technologies will make once you’re actually in the game. They don’t seem substantial when picked out and highlighted like this, but the overall effect could end up being pretty dramatic if you have the hardware necessary to run the game the way Ubisoft wants you to.
