Seth Rogen will reportedly play Steve “Woz” Wozniak in the upcoming Steve Jobs biopic opposite Christian Bale. The news was reported by The Wrap earlier today citing several anonymous sources. Now Variety appears to have confirmed the report.
Just last week Christian Bale was finally confirmed for the role of Steve Jobs following endless rumors and speculation, though today’s news that he’ll be joined onscreen by Seth Rogen certainly caught us by surprise. The Sony-produced film was written by Aaron Sorkin (The Social Network) and is being directed by Danny Boyle (127 Hours, Slumdog Millionaire). Wozniak himself is also onboard as a consultant in some capacity.
The decision to cast Seth Rogen in the role of Woz is an interesting one. Apple’s co-founder is often portrayed as a lighthearted foil to the more intense Steve Jobs, so it makes sense to hire a comedian rather than a dramatic actor for the role. Then again, we’ve never seen Rogen in a serious role before, though it’s possible this could be the one that sees him breakthrough.
It’s unclear if casting for Woz is official just yet, but at the very least it sounds like Rogen is being seriously considered. We’ll keep you updated if there are any more developments.
