DICE and EA have confirmed that Star Wars: Battlefront will be released during the holiday season of 2015, and they are aiming for a launch that will coincide with J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars Episode VII, which is releasing on December 18th. This means that the game will most likely hit shelves somewhere in the weeks leading up to the film.
EA CFO Blake Jorgensen confirmed that the game would also be EA’s only major first-person shooter of the holiday season. Battlefield 5 will not be released to compete against it, and instead, the flagship shooter franchise will be returning to the video game world the following holiday in 2016.
Hopefully, the game has been in development long enough, and DICE has finally come around to launching games effectively on the current generation consoles. If you thought the fallout from Battlefield 4 was bad, imagine what it would have to go through with raving mad Star Wars fans. Yikes!
Something tells me that every party involved knows the stakes and that is not going to happen. Star Wars: Battlefront will have a squeaky clean release for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC next holiday season… hopefully.
