Though I’m not really a fan of how Double Fine went about creating and launching Spacebase DF-9, I wholly support the deal it’s offering to fans of its games on Steam in celebration of its release.
If you picked up Spacebase DF-9 during its Early Access run, you’re now an owner of Double Fine’s Hack ‘n’ Slash. That deal goes the other way too, so owners of Hack ‘n’ Slash will find a copy of Spacebase DF-9 in their pile of virtual gifts on Steam.
Sure, it doesn’t make up for the fact that you backed an Early Access campaign that didn’t meet consumer demand or openly communicate with its supporters. I totally get and am part of the crowd frustrated with how Double Fine handled this entire thing.
However, a free game (and a decent one, at that) is a nice enough way to apologize for me to move on. Spacebase DF-9 isn’t the game I hoped it would be at its version 1.0 release, but it is what it is. Time to move on.
