LG G3 owners could get the sweet taste of Android 5.0 Lollipop before the year is up, according to a post on LG’s German Facebook page. Android L has been available for months in a preview state, and it looks like LG has put its time to good use by diligently working on a timely update; Android 5.0 Lollipop is expected to be available on a limited basis when Google’s new Nexus devices begin rolling out early next month. If LG can whip up an update before 2015, then the G3 could be among the first to get Lollipop up and running for consumers.
Of course, there’s always the possibility of unforeseen setbacks, but that never happens in mobile, right? The promise comes from LG’s Germany Facebook page, which sadly doesn’t share many more details beyond a fourth quarter 2014 timeframe. It’s better than nothing at all, especially considering that we’re already in the fourth quarter of the year. Even if the update is whipped up by LG in a timely manner, there’s still the matter of waiting for carriers to authorize it before being rolled out to G3 devices.
As of now, if you own a Motorola or Nexus device, you’re positioned to be among the first to experience what Android 5.0 Lollipop has to offer. But it sounds like the G3 won’t be all that far behind. And if you own a G3, LG is promising an Android 5.0 update to that device sometime early next year.
