For anyone wondering how much of a difference dropping the Kinect as a standard part of the Xbox One kit made, the results are in.

Total sales were up 25% for the company, but Xbox console sales in particular increased 102 percent in the first quarter of Microsoft’s financial year.

2.4 million Xbox consoles were shipped to retailers as of September 30, helping the Device and Consumer division of which it is a part of increase revenue by 47 percent – $10.96 billion. The console launched in 30 new markets, including places like China and northern Europe, in addition to that crucial price drop, which is certain to have played a role as well.

This holiday season, too, should prove interesting for Microsoft’s console as it continues to play catch-up.
