Over the last few weeks, Xbox Head Phil Spencer has made his intentions regarding the ability to take and share screenshots on the Xbox One known. This is something the PlayStation 4 and Wii U (and obviously PC, of course) can already do, and Spencer’s been getting a lot of feedback from fans specifically because of that point.

He’s on the record saying that we’ll see it in a future update since way back in May of this year.

With 2014 slowly approaching its end, IGN has word from Spencer regarding December’s system update and the timeline for taking screenshots. December is going to see a much smaller update compared to what we’ve had over the last few months. Spencer says it’s “a time for us to pause for a little bit and settle just as all the new consoles are coming online.”

As for screenshots? “As we come back into the new year, we’ll see new stuff, and screenshots is on the list.”

So, don’t expect the ability to yell “Xbox, take a screenshot!” until January of 2015 at the earliest.
