Papers, Please Dev Releases Demo for Next Game

Lucas Pope, the indie developer behind last year’s Papers, Please, has released a playable demo for his next game, Return of the Obra Dinn.

The game looks to be a sharp departure from his previous effort, which simulated a checkpoint between two Eastern European nations during the Cold War. Obra Dinn is a nautical mystery game with a visual style at least as distinctive as that of Papers, Please.

The game, according to Polygon, is set in 1808, and tasks you with investigating a merchant ship that drifts ashore after six years lost at sea.

The demo is available now on Pope’s official site, but he says that while this is a playable build, “there’s not much content and it hasn’t been tested. Progress is not saved.”
