Galaxy Mega 2 Will Hit AT&T on Oct. 24

Not much love has been shown to the Galaxy Mega 2, quietly announced in overseas markets, with the Note 4 now set to conquer the big phone market. But AT&T on Monday announced that fans of the oversized device will be able to pick it up beginning Oct. 24. If you want a phone with a big screen—6 inches, to be exact—this is among the better options out there, it just doesn’t offer the same kind of specs the Galaxy Note 4.

The Mega 2 is essentially a monster mid-range phone, complete with 720p display and 1.5GB of RAM. There’s no S Pen, which is one of the reasons why people are so attracted to the Note 4, and the design is not something you’d call high-end; not awful, but certainly not of the Note 4’s quality (or Galaxy Alpha, for that matter). Other specs include a 1.5GHz quad-core processor, 16GB of storage, an 8-megapixel camera (2.1-megapixel front), Android 4.4 KitKat and a 2800mAh battery.

Samsung’s Mega 2 isn’t the most premium device out there, but that’s not why people like it; last year’s Mega was mid-range, too, yet it still found its niche among those who prefer ginormous screens. This won’t be AT&T’s best-seller by any stretch of the imagination, but it will no doubt please a lot of people when it’s finally available. You’ll soon be able to pick up the Mega 2 for $149.99 with a two-year contract, or $479.99 off-contract. Meanwhile, on the same day, you’ll also be able to buy the device through Next 18 for $19.80 a month or Next 12 for $23.75 a month.
