Connected industry pundits with sources deep inside Apple, such as the folks at Re/Code and 9to5Mac, have suggested that Apple will unveil new iPads, a Retina iMac desktop computer and more tomorrow. Re/Code specifically said that Apple will not discuss the Retina MacBook Air during Thursday’s press conference, however. That device is instead expected to launch sometime next year. Despite all of this, DigiTimes said recently that it has learned Apple will introduce a new MacBook Air with Retina display on Thursday.
The news outlet said Apple will begin to ship the new 12-inch MacBook Air with Retina in volume starting next month, and that Apple has created a new design for the logo on back. Apple will “use laser cutting and unique embedded technologies to make the logo 3D-like and shine at the edges” for the logo, DigiTimes said, noting that it believes all new products will eventually ship with the new design. Oddly, the report says Apple will employ the new look starting with its “next-generation iMac,” which is the computer we believe Apple will announce tomorrow in place of the MacBook Air.
We don’t know what to make of this report and think it’s still likely that Apple will instead launch the new MacBook Air with Retina in 2015. TechnoBuffalo will be reporting live from Apple’s event tomorrow, however, so if it’s introduced you can bet we’ll bring you everything you need to know.
