Google’s messing with Android fans on purpose. We still have no idea what it’s going to call the final version of Android L, but the most popular names floating around are Licorice, Lemon Meringue Pie and Lollipop. Now the latter has a bit of steam behind it, as a screenshot was recently published to Google’s Chromium Issue tracker page – and then quickly pulled.
Perhaps Google’s secret has been discovered after all!
If you look at the shot below, you’ll notice a lollipop debug icon floating in the status bar with a bit of an Android head. That seems like a dead giveaway to us, but maybe Google is just planting these little Easter eggs all over the place to throw us off its scent. After all, we just ran a story highlighting a man named Giovannia Calabrese, the guy behind the popular Android statues on Google’s campus. Calabrese has been posting a bunch of posts to Google+ talking about licorice and how he’s been giving some away. Maybe the guy just likes sharing his candy.
Google is expected to announce the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 tomorrow, according to recent rumors, and hopefully it settles all of this brouhaha once and for all.
