Four More Pokémon Mega Evolutions Confirmed Including Mega Pidgeot

Mega Evolutions are taking off in a mega way, and Serebii.net has the latest on four more that have been added to the roster in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. A translated interview from CoroCoro Magazine confirms that Mega Pidgeot will be among them, and I can’t think of any better design than the one provided above. Sadly, Nintendo did not agree.

Mega Pidgeot will be a normal/flying type Pokemon with the No Guard ability, and he will also grant closure to an entire generation of Pokemon players who remember Pidgey as the very first Pokémon they ever caught and the very first Pokémon they stored on the PC. I am not among them, because I remember catching a Rattata first, and more often than not, I built a Pidgey to at least evolve into Pidgeotto.

The second Pokémon is also one that old-timers like myself will recognize. Mega Beedrill, a Bug/Poison type with the Adaptability ability, again will make you wish you hadn’t thrown those useless Weedles and Kakunas into the PC. This is not aimed at me because I went with the Blue version and spent my time using powerful attacks like Confusion with Butterfree long before I ever should have. What’s with that, Nintendo?!

Mega Butterfree would really make my day.

Closing out the new Mega Evolutions are Mega Latios and Mega Latias, exclusive to Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire respectively. No types have been provided, but both have been confirmed to be able to use the Fly ability.

Serebii also discovered in the announcement that using Fly in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire will grant players the ability to soar above the clouds for the first time, letting them battle and capture flying types. Sounds like a great way to level up your rock and electric types.

No footage of the new Mega Pokémon in motion just yet, but Serebii has the magazine scans showing off the designs, and I am especially excited to see Pidgeot be given this treatment even if his mega form looks really evil. He was one of my mains in Pokémon X and Y, and I really want to transfer him over into the new games to give him a whirl.

Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire will be released on Nov. 21 for the Nintendo 3DS.
